Alexander Wang Collection 2
In true Alexander Wang fashion, he debuted his Collection 2 at One Hanson in NYC on Saturday December 1st, 2018 just about two months prior to the official three-city fashion week extravaganza that will span over the month of February 2019.
Wang launched his label in 2005 after dropping out of Parsons School of Design. His label started as a knitwear collection and was supported by his family in his business endeavors. Anna Wintour of Vogue immediately took notice and the Vogue/CFDA Fund awarded him a sum of $200,000 to continue his march through the high-fashion world.
Wang prides himself on standing out and pushing the envelope and this fashion show for his Collection 2 did just that. Models were adorned in Matrix-like garb and hairstyles as the focus of the collection is that there is no gain without a little bit of pain and that pain is to be experienced in order for people to excel— a sentiment that Wang can relate to as he was fired from Balenciaga in 2016. However Wang still went on to excel in his own label, dressing some of the most celebrities of Hollywood.
In this collection, Wang combined leopard, lace, stripes and pops of color while remaining true to the bold Matrix-Victorian look in order to show that every style can be cohesive when styled correctly.
