Stress— How to DEAL:

Sometimes stress can be a silent killer but it’s typically identified when our bodies go int a fight or flight mode which can be complemented with feelings of intensity, upset stomaches, headaches, clenched posture— you name it. When we are unaware of where stressors come from or at a loss as to how to deal with it, it affects us physically, mentally and emotionally.

It is incredibly important to become aware of what stresses us out, take a moment to take a breath and remind ourselves that it’s a moment that will pass and there’s no point in heightening a stressful situation by succumbing to emotions. Take that breath and when you have a moment at the end of your work day or over the weekend try one of the following:

Cook…

When we prepare a meal, it automatically puts us in a more spiritual and calm state— we are are doing something that calms us and nourishes us at the same time. Whether you are preparing a simple salad or an intricate meal, we start to focus on what would make us happy and satisfied with what we are putting in our bodies. It’s truly a win-win solution.

Journal…

Ever heard that your success is a product of the thoughts you think? Well, it’s true. We all have the power to feed into negativity or learn how to deal with things in a healthy and positive way. Staring at a blank page and putting your handwriting to paper will help you get acquainted with your thought process and help you better problem solve. So write it out— the good, the bad, the stressful— whatever is on your mind. Getting it all out to yourself on paper will give you the mental freedom to tackle whatever life hands you on the daily. And the best part? No one is judging! You’re free to get to know you.

Treat Yourself…

Take yourself to a spa on the weekend and enjoy the sauna or if you don’t have time on the weekend or on a budget, build yourself one at home. We aren’t talking breaking out your carpenter’s goggles, but you can create a peaceful setting in your bathroom by showering with only a salt rock lamp on, a Tibetan music playlist playing and showering with your favorite body oils. It’s an instant pick me up, it’s cheap, and all at your immediate disposal.
